Although the name implies bluish feelings, you get nothing of the sort from this excellent restaurant located in the middle of the newer Mill Creek Town Center. I walked into the restaurant last night and enjoyed one of the better happy hours I have ever been to. I went with a friend and we ordered with our eyes as the happy hour prices were so low the meals couldn’t have been filling. But we were happily wrong. I ordered the BBQ pork sandwich, crab cakes, and two chicken tacos along a side of chips and an amazingly unique and great tasting salsa, all for around $15. I finished the crab cakes and BBQ sandwich and forced myself to eat one of the tacos but either could’ve filled me up so I don’t recommend ordering so much.

But on to the food. the BBQ sandwich was great. The pork was very tender and the sauce was sweet and a little spicy at once. It was huge for an happy hour meal and I could’ve satisfied with just that. The crab cakes were tasty and not too creamy like some crab cakes. They had a little crunch on the outside and a nice creamy sauce that added another great flavor. Then to to chicken tacos, probably my favorite. they are filled full and the two fill up a whole plate. The chicken is great in itself, mine was a little dry but only because I ordered without the sauce. However, I put on the salsa from the chips and it made the tacos even more amazing. To go along with the food, the atmosphere is wonderful. It is calm and the crowd seems to be a rather upscale crowd and everyone seems respecful and waitstaff are always moving trying to get stuff done.

All in all, a wonderful place to dine, great food, excellent happy hour, and a perfect score for my experience there.

The burgers are simple as you can choose one or two beef patties, then whatever toppings and that is it. No fancy meats or even any fancy sides, but the fries and burgers will fill you up and satisfy your hunger just fine.

I went with a bacon double burger and some cajun fries. The burger was delicious. The grease dripped from the bun like all my favorite burgers do and the actual meat was totally fresh. Didn’t look like your typical frozen fast food place. Five guys really pulled through and for a reasonable price. In fact, I would have to put them near the top of my list as best chain burger. Thank you Five Guys and I definitely will return.

Sunday, February 14th, 2010 – I took my date to the Admiral Theatre in Bremerton this last Valentine’s Day. I could’ve done something around this area but it was the only clear night of the week and I thought it would be romantic going on the ferry. It was a pleasant ride when we left, about 4:30, and lasted about an hour. Then we walked a few blocks and picked up our tickets at will call. We went inside and the wait staff was very courteous, asking for our coats right away, then taking us to our dinner for two table near the front of the theatre. It was a nice and romantic setting; a single long stem red rose, a nonscented candle wrapped with red lace, and a bag of delicious chocolate candy, all which were for her this date given I don’t really eat chocolate too much and obviously the rose for her as well. It was a great first impression.

The wait staff was nice and prompt and we didn’t have to wait long for someone to come over and go over the menu. It wasn’t the greatest menu for me specifically because I don’t eat milk or cheese, but I made the reservation according to my dates preferences. The menu was 3 courses: appetizer salad with roll, a nice steak with cheese mashed potatoes and a side of green beans, and a dessert cheese cake over a brownie style crust.

The food was catered so there wasn’t too much they could do with the food so when I asked for no crumbled cheese on the salad, they brought mine with nothing except lettuce and dressing and left out the fruit, nuts, and other toppings. So it wasn’t the greatest for me, but my date enjoyed hers and it looked tasty.

The main course was great. I had to order mine without mashed potatoes because they couldn’t make it without cheese since it was precooked, but they compensated me with some extra veggies. The steak was small but very tender and it was excellently cooked given the circumstances.

The dessert wasn’t my favorite, or my dates. The cheesecake was dried out quite a bit but she did indulge in the brownie crust so that was nice. Overall the meal was nice. It left me personally hungry but that wasn’t their fault given I knew the menu before I was there so I can’t take anything away from them on that. My date found it romantic and relaxing. We then stayed at our table for two and watched an old classic “Moonstruck” with Cher and Nicolas Cage. I had never seen the movie but enjoyed it thoroughly.

The ferry ride back was maybe the whole reason we went in the first place but it was amazing. I go on the ferry at night as often as it makes sense. the views from the ferry when all the lights are on and a clear night are spectacular. We sat on top of the ferry deck and watched as the lights got brighter and the buildings got taller to end a very pleasant and relaxing evening.

Verdict: I would recommend to anyone to check out the Admiral Theatre in Bremerton. I have gone a number of times and they always have interesting events. If you live in Seattle or have to go on the ferry, it is also a great time coming back at night. Overall, a great Valentine’s Day date.

So it has been a while since I last posted but I really miss doing it. I am going to start by visiting this last week. On Saturday I took my mother to “The Sleeping Beauty”, a ballet by Pacific Northwest Ballet, at McCaw Hall. I have gone to three this last year and have been impressed by all. I love the ballet and usually PNB does a great job. I don’t know if this show was different because we went to a matinee for the first time, but I was less than impressed. Not to take away from the dancers. They were wonderful and the actual choreography was tremendous. There were a lot of solos and pairs and you really got to see some wonderful dancing. If it wasn’t “The Sleeping Beauty”, and just ballet dancing, it would’ve been absolutely incredible. I guess I should start at the beginning of my experience to give you a full perspective.

The matinee I think was the worst part. Absolutely if you have children, go to the matinee. But if you are an adult with other adults, consider yourself warned. Children were everywhere and really made the show a different experience. I had multiple children kicking my seat the whole time, a woman next to me who kept texting throughout the show, a boy in front of me who must have been only 2 years old bothering the people in front of him, and a lot of explaining to the children throughout that made it hard to hear the orchestra properly. The next issue I had was to make it easier for the children, they had an intermission every 30 minutes, which extended the time another hour or so. By the end everyone was restless, even me.

I hate to detract from the show because of the audience, but just thought I should warn you. The show itself was great through the first three acts. the first act showed a wonderul party as the Princess Aurora was just born. There were many dancers who showed their talents to the King and Queen and all was cheery until the wicked Carabosse showed up and put an evil spell on Aurora. The Lilac Fairy put her own spell on Aurora to reverse the full effects of the evil fairys curse so Aurora wouldn’t die when she pricked her finger on the well known spindle, but rather fall asleep until true loves first kiss will awaken her.

The second act was Princess Aurora’s 16th birthday and a big celebration was happening when an old woman wearing old beat up clothes showed up with a spindle for a present. Enchanted with the present Aurora pricks her finger and falls to the floor. The Lilac fairy puts everyone to sleep for a hundred years and the act closes.

Prince Florimund has gathered in a nearby forest with some fellow friends and the Lilac Fairy takes him to the side and shows him a vision of Aurora. Enchanted, he follows the Lilac Fairy to the sleeping place and leans to give her a kiss. A short but intense sequence has him slay the wicked fairy and kisses Aurora.

Maybe if the third and fourth acts were together it wouldn’t have seemed so split up, but they come back for a fourth act for the wedding. The dancing is wonderful as it has been the whole time, but it really felt like it was just thrown in to take up time. It is a celebration and there are many dances that span about 35 minutes and then it is done.

I suppose I would say this ballet in itself was excellent, the dancing was superb, the intermissions were somewhat annoying, the matinee crowd is one I will not be joining again, and the fourth act seem to be out of place. Overall, a wonderful performance with one flaw was a little overwhelmed by the underage crowd and kicking of my seats. I will continue to go back as the PNB always gives a great show.

I am writing my first edition of my Interesting People segment about the gentleman who comes in every day to say hi. Every day a few hours after we open here at the mall, he comes to me with a bunch of balloons (different colors and arrangements every day), and lets me know what is in store as far as the weather goes for the next few days. One of the nicest guys ever and is completely content with exchanging a few words with a number of people around the mall, that are actually willing to give him a couple minutes of their time, and then says “have a nice day”. He then usually proceeds to let me know when he will be back in, which usually is the next day. He lives about an hour away and apparently rides the bus here every day. He says hi, then goes to the jewelers next to my kiosk and gets some coffee, then leaves. Sometimes I will see him around the mall talking to other people as well, and he tells them the same thing he tells me, about the weather.
I haven’t yet got his name but as soon as he stops for an extra moment I will have it and then be able to include his name when I say hi to him back. He makes me smile every time I see him because he is completely happy with his life, and all it takes to be happy is conversing with random strangers.
The lesson I can take from him is this: the important part of our lives is not the time we spend making money, or working for somebody, or even trying to make something of yourself so you can finally take some time off to actually enjoy life, but rather the things we do if money wasn’t an issue at all. I don’t know “The Balloon Guy’s” life story, and have no idea what his financials are. But what I do know is that he makes time to talk to other people just because that is what he likes to do. It doesn’t make him money or give him a better status in this world, but just simply makes him happy. I need to start to think about what it is I will do once I have made my fortune, and have all the free time in the world to do whatever it is I want. Then I need to just go out and do those things and stop worrying about the money I need to make to enjoy it first.
I started trying to figure out what it was I would do if I never had to work again and what would I love to do. I couldn’t think of it at first. Which made me think even more about why I was doing what I was doing. I know I want to travel, enjoy the different cuisines of the world, and also learn more about the culture of different parts of the world, and meet new people and figure out their stories.
Then it hit me, I can do most of that right now. I meet people all day long from different backgrounds and heritages. They speak different languages and eat different foods. They all have an interesting story to tell and most would love to tell it if they simply had someone to listen. I can achieve some of the things I want to do later in life right now, all the while doing what it is I am doing currently. Many of those people were the reason I started this segment in my blog, and I will discuss further in future sections.
So what I want to leave with you is this: think about what it is you want to do if money wasn’t an issue, where would you go, what would you do, and why would it make you happy. Then see if you can realize some of those things while living the way you do now. My days are much better experiences and I am learning a lot about different cultures every day. I feel blessed and I think you will too. Thanks for listening. Have a great day.

I haven’t posted anything for a while because I have been working 11 hours a day trying to start up a kiosk with a friend and am the only one managing the store right now. One of the many great things about working in a mall atmosphere is that you get to meet all kinds of great and interesting people. This gave me an idea. I want to start writing on my blog about the interesting people I happen to come across and what I can take as a lesson to be learned from each of them. So that is what I am going to do. I am most likely going to use fictional names or none at all for sake of their privacy but I think this will be a fun little daily section of my blog I can write every day during the slow hours. My next post today will be the first edition. Thanks for tuning in.

So it has been a few days since my last post. I have been a little busy with Valentines Day weekend and all. The night before Valentines Day I went to a great Moroccan Restaurant with a wonderful young woman and had an amazing time. We took pictures of each of the five courses you get. You can tell it is something special right when you walk in. The walls are covered in authentic Moroccan fabrics and the tables are made up of large brass plates on top of an ottoman like table.
Our first course was an authentic soup that you had to drink by holding the bowl up to your mouth. Everything is eaten with your hands until the main course. It was a tasty ‘harira’ soup, with a somewhat sweet tomato base, with just the right amount of lentils and chickpeas with the obvious saffron spice among others that make the soup a great starting off point.

Trio of Salad

Our second serving was a Moroccan salad, and unlike our normal salads, it didn’t include any lettuce. It was actually a trio of salads on a wonderful plate that had each salad circle the inner. The salads were of eggplant, roasted bell peppers and tomatoes, and carrots to finish off the plate. It was accompanied by a thicker bread to scoop up the salads with. We were trying to pace ourselves so we only finished half and had to come back to complete it a little later.

B'stilla

Then came the wonderful b’stilla which is Morocco’s national dish. The sound of it doesn’t make you yearn for it but once it was presented you cant wait to dig in. It is a pie which combines sweet and salty flavors; a delicious combination of crisp layers of warka dough, a thinner cousin of the phyllo dough, savory chicken, and a crunchy layer of toasted and ground almonds, cinnamon, and sugar. They make theirs with quite a lot of sugar and cinnamon but the presentation was beautiful as it lay there as a pie, covered in the powdered sugar, and using the cinnamon to design palm trees across the plate. The taste is exquisite with a perfect balance of sweet and meat, along with the phyllo dough which offers a nice thin crunch to the dish.

The fourth course was our entrees and we decided to go the route of choosing two very opposite dishes and try to get the full experience of Morocco. We first chose the T’Faya Tagine. This was a wonderful dish of simmered lamb in a delightful saffron ginger sauce and topped with carmelized onions with raisins and cinnamon. The carmelized onions did provide a little extra height to the dish as they were stacked pretty high, but once you combined them with the succulent lamb that was falling off the bone, it made for an appetizing dish. The raisins were a nice touch and added a little more sweetness to the dish, although for me personally, I didn’t need any more sweetness. I am not familiar with other Moroccan restaurants but every dish seemed sweet to me. However I liked the dish and my companion found it wonderful but I enjoyed even more the other entree we chose.

It was a ‘fish’ dish, although the menu didn’t mention what fish exactly, in a sort of marinara like sauce. The sauce had green peppers that were very prevalent in the taste along with a number of other spices. The sauce wasn’t as sweet as the other dishes and I enjoyed that very much. The fish fillet was small and went far too quick but the taste was very enjoyable.

As we were waiting for our “not so traditional” desert of chocolate moose pie, although no complaints as I found it refreshing and delicious, we were entertained by the ‘belly dancer’. It was great, the music got louder and she did a great job of showing us just a little more of the tradition from a completely different region of the world.

Dinner Dancing

My companion was extremely delighted, as was I, when I held up my dollar bill and the dancer asked me to join her on the main floor. As I am not one to shy away from anything that has to do with dancing, I was happy to oblige.

Overall, the experience was wonderful. The ambiance was great for a date, and worked perfect for Valentine’s Day, and gave us an experience to remember. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting to get out of the traditional sit down, eat, and leave experience that we so often get at normal restaurants. This was fun and Kabah Moroccan Restaurant can expect me back again.

Look the definition of productivity up in the dictionary. Productivity can be defined as a measure relating a quantity or quality of output to the inputs required to produce it. So in essence, being productive basically means making the most of your time and efforts. Sounds simple enough right? Well, as we all know, productivity can be awful deceptive. I want to share with you some ways to become more productive in your life and to truly “make the most of your time and effort”.
At a past company I worked for I remember a time when I fell into the “Trap”. I started working there and from the get-go I worked hard all the time. I spent my time wisely and got more done than what was expected. I climbed the ladder fast and was on my way to big things. Then a funny thing happened; I was moved into the area where some underperforming employees were working and I let them get to me. Their attitude was negative. They always seemed to be making excuses why their sales were low. The economy is bad, nobody wants to spend money, our product or service was too expensive, the weather has been too bad, and on and on and on it went. After a while, I started to believe what I was hearing. And not only believed what I was hearing but I began to use my time like they did. I began to barely hit my call numbers and not even come close to the talk time I was supposed to reach. I started taking extra long lunches and too many breaks. I used my time poorly and spent a lot of the time on the internet browsing random articles to make the days go by faster. Not only did my productivity drop, but my income began to drop as well.
After a few more months of that I got called into my manager’s office. He told me I was being written up for performance reasons and I needed to step it up or else I was to be fired. When I left that meeting I realized what I had become. I couldn’t deny the numbers. And they were bad; bad call numbers, bad talk time, bad time management, bad results. I knew I needed to change and get back to the person I was when I began. And so I started on my path to being productive once again.
After a lot of thinking and trying to figure out how I got to that point, I realized that maybe going backwards was exactly what was going to help me return to being the most productive I could be. The first thing I did was begin to set goals. I know we have all heard that before but it is vital to high productivity. I knew one of the reasons I started slacking was because of my lack of organization. I didn’t have an idea of what I had to get done until I had to do it.
My day usually began of me coming into the office and spending the next hour or sometimes two preparing for the day. I know I needed to change this and so I created a worksheet that outlined my first 15 calls of the day. I wrote them down so I knew who to call and when, then left it on my desk to be the first thing I saw the next day. This was an improvement, but it was still taking me too long to get my calls done. I remembered when I started I always had a timeline. So I added to my worksheet by promising myself to have those 15 calls done within the first two hours of my day. All of a sudden I began to have a lot of extra time at the end of the day. My calls and tasks were complete with a couple hours to spare. I realized when I start out fast and strong I usually could keep it going, at least until lunch. My daily tasks seemed to be getting done faster but I wasn’t making a large difference in my income yet and I felt as if I was wasting the last couple hours of the day since I got everything done fast.
This made me think even more. What did I stop doing that made me so effective in the past that I don’t do now? I remember I used to get into work earlier and I also realized I also used to prioritize my tasks to what they had in common. I was doing great by making a good chunk of my calls so early but I was still going back and forth from topic to topic. I then decided to make my first 15 list, promise myself to make those calls within the first two hours, make a list of the rest of my tasks for the day and then divide them into categories. These categories could be anything that made the tasks similar. This way I could be in one frame of mind and be thinking of one subject clearly until all the related tasks were done. After I categorized and prioritized my tasks for the day, I made an extra list of things to do. These were a pool of tasks I could dive into if I got everything done early and weren’t in my normal schedule.
The final result: I got into work every morning an hour early and without any preparation time I was on the phone making my calls and had the first 15 done within the first 2 hours. I then went and ate a snack, usually a banana or something to give me some energy. This goes along with eating healthy and keeping a balanced diet. I would come back to work and continue on the rest of my tasks. I really flew through the tasks because everything was the same. What I mean by that is a group of my calls all had the same subject. This was great because when someone had an objection or concern I was completely prepared for it. And given that I probably just heard the same objection, I knew what the correct response was and began to sound extremely confident on the phone. This was a huge factor in increasing sales and ultimately creating more income for me. I was getting my tasks done fast. And not only that, I was flying through my tasks faster and making more sales while I was at it. Then, on top of that, I began using my extra hours at the end of the day to dive into my extra pool of tasks and to-do-list items, as well as preparing for the following day. My days began to go by faster, I started climbing up that ladder again, and I saw a significant increase in my paycheck. I was well on my way to becoming more productive.
I know you don’t want to hear me rant solely about being productive at work but I really feel that these steps are great steps to take when you are trying to improve your productivity. I will break it down a little in simple terms for you.
Start your production increase by realizing where you are currently. This is very critical and gives you an important starting off point. Once you figure out how your time is spent currently you can then begin to improve on it. Make a list of everything you want to get done the next day. And be nice to yourself in the beginning by not giving yourself a thousand things to get done but keep your tasks manageable. Place the tasks in three sections. Once you have your list, set up what I like to call “goal-marks” by setting a time to have the first section of those tasks done by. Make a promise to yourself and stick to it! Wake up the next morning an hour early and go right to work. Don’t think about getting everything done for the day or what is next on your list. As of this point, you shouldn’t care. All you need to focus on is getting the task at hand finished completely and then think about the next item. And don’t skip either; you made the list the night before and do everything you can to stick to it one by one. Once you hit your first “goal-mark” take a break. Have a snack or go for a walk. Make sure you give yourself mini-treats and pat yourself on the back. You will begin to notice that when you work hard and stop thinking about time and everything else, you get so much done and you will be proud of yourself and have that sense of satisfaction you may not have felt for some time. Go back to work and hit your second “goal-mark” then take lunch. All of a sudden you have very little left to do and it is barely midday. You are going to feel so satisfied and your mind will feel weightless. When you finish your tasks for the day prepare for the next day with some of your extra time. Use the rest of your day to enjoy the pleasures of this world. Go home to your family an hour or two early and surprise them or indulge in an activity you love.
Not only will your work or daily routine go by faster, you will begin to see the fruits of your labor through recognition from work or at home. You will begin to notice the extra time you can spend with your family or on the things or activities you love in life. Once you get to this point and you are finishing up your tasks faster and becoming much more productive, don’t let it stop there. Use your extra time to increase your education, learn about something, and turn off the radio in the car on the way to and from work and listen to an audio book. Spend 30 minutes per day learning to enhance your craft or knowledge that will improve you at work. Your time is valuable and when you realize how much you can achieve with your time, it will help to further your decision making ability on what tasks are worth your time or not. This is great because many people waste time on useless tasks that consume our days yet have no real benefit to us. Don’t be afraid to delegate to somebody else if is a minimal benefit but time consuming task. For example, me personally, I feel I can learn more or do something so much more productive with an hour of my time then to change my own oil. It costs $15 a lot of places and would probably still cost me $10-$15 anyways. Why not give that job to somebody else? Save yourself an hour and spend it with the people or activities that really matter, rather than do it just because you know how. Learn your importance and understand that time is the only thing in this world we can never get back once it is gone.

Now go and have your best day ever!

I am posting this today but I meant to post yesterday. I have been training for a football combine with a friend who plays semi-pro football. Given that I previously ran sprints competitively, he asked me for help on training for the 40-yard dash. One of the problems we were running into was our hamstrings kept getting really tight and sore after running the sprints. His steps were also really small and I could tell he definitely needed to become more flexible, as well as better balanced. So through our gym on Tuesdays and Thursdays we have begun to attend yoga classes. I have never done yoga but I want to let you know that yoga is truly beneficial for anybody. The first time I went was after lifting heavy weights for the previous two hours and I tell you what; parts of yoga were harder than anything I could have put onto the free weights. The muscles you have to use in yoga are completely different than those of heavy lifting. After going for the last couple weeks, I am hooked. Now I am looking into exactly what muscles are being used and wanted to find the best book to show me.
Yoga Anatomy
by Leslie Kaminoff is a great book. This book shows great pictures and gives you a great understanding of exactly what is being worked and how. Multiple viewpoints give you a different look than any other book. Check it out and get involved. Yoga is amazing and everybody should experience it!

So today I went to Lunchbox Labratory in Ballard, WA. This is the place I go once a month or so to completely get off my healthy track. It is an insane burger joint that does nothing less than serve you the greatest hamburger you will ever eat in your life. Every time I go there, I can barely drive home because I fall into a food coma from greasy, drippy, thousand calorie, somewhat disgusting (in a good way though), and completely too large, hamburger full of deliciousness. It is absolutely amazing and you have never had a hamburger until you have been to the Lunchbox Labratory. Anyone from Seattle or the surrounding parts: check it out! It will change your life…
